An illustrator and designer, I have been following for some time, I thought i’d share his work, I find it very inspirational, and get excited by his use of illustration and type and the free and expressiveness of the work.

Desktop organised by IKEA?
Browsing various blogs, and websites, I stubbled upon, something interesting and very different. A Hungarian advertising agency ‘Laboratory Ideas’ have created an app that allows you to organise your computer desktop as if it were a set of IKEA shelves.
“Just like Ikea’s furniture, the Ikea e-Folder set has to be assembled by you: it consists of a background picture with an Expedit storage unit and an icon set made of Ikea’s very own organisers,” the agency say. “Once you set it up, you can put order to the chaos on your desktop.” - quote from creative review blog
All in all I like the idea, and it is a similar idea to the grid organised backgrounds available on iphone. But developed by IKEA, its a great tool to interact with customers too. The only problem I have with it is after a while it will become just a boring piece of IKEA furniture, furniture for the masses; It could be developed into other furniture, and further choices and the ability to customise, which would provide a more uniqueness… But on the whole I really do like the concept.
The e-Folder set can be downloaded from the Ikea sites in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Design competition sites.
Im not really sure, how many design competition sites are out there, but the ones im talking about are the ones where a project brief is set and 100+ people create designs, for the prize, some money, usually no more than £500. But do you really get good design. I joined a site similar to this months ago, I never join the competitions, because I’m sure the designer is worse off. It’s like pitching to a client online, but you have hundreds of competitors, is there really any chance in winning? Another thing is i guess you don’t get to meet and understand your client or target audience so well, so its cheap design for the business involved, but I don’t think its great design.
Gum Street Art
Doing my daily browse of news stories, I came across a curious story on BBC News online, about an artist who manipulates chewing gum on street pavements into miniature paintings. It is a strange way of making art, but at the same time a rather curious one.
For the full article see : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11677462
After further exploring this i discovered video’s of the ‘chewing gum man’ on YouTube:
